The ACV Questions Everyone Asks

The ACV Questions Everyone Asks

Apple cider vinegar has been around for a long time, but somehow, it still comes with a lot of questions.

Can you drink it straight? What exactly is “the Mother”? When should you have it? And does it always have to taste that sour?

If you’re new to ACV, here are the answers to some of the questions we hear all the time.

01. First things first, what actually is apple cider vinegar?

Apple cider vinegar, or ACV, is made from apples through fermentation. During the process, the natural sugars in apples are first converted into alcohol, which is then transformed into acetic acid, giving vinegar its signature tangy taste.

Different ACV products can vary in flavour, strength and how they’re intended to be enjoyed, so it’s always worth checking the label.

02. Can you really drink apple cider vinegar straight?

It depends on what you’re drinking.

Traditional concentrated apple cider vinegar is highly acidic and is commonly diluted before drinking. Ready-to-drink ACV beverages, on the other hand, are specifically formulated to be enjoyed as a drink.

Bio-E Apple Cider Vinegar Beverage is ready to drink, so there’s no need to dilute it. Enjoy it on its own, chilled or with sparkling water.

03. What’s “the Mother” everyone keeps talking about?

Despite the slightly mysterious name, the Mother is a natural part of the vinegar fermentation process, made up of bacteria and cellulose.

It can give apple cider vinegar a slightly cloudy appearance or create natural sediment in the bottle. So if you notice some cloudiness in an ACV containing the Mother, that can simply be part of its natural character.

04. When’s the best time to drink ACV?

There isn’t one perfect time that works for everyone.

Some people enjoy apple cider vinegar as part of their morning routine, while others prefer it around mealtimes. It really comes down to the product you’re using, its directions and what fits comfortably into your everyday routine.

05. How much ACV should I have?

This depends on the product and its concentration, so always follow the serving instructions on the label rather than treating every ACV as interchangeable.

For Bio-E Apple Cider Vinegar Beverage, the suggested serving is 20 mL per day.

06. Does ACV have to taste super sour?

Not necessarily.

Traditional apple cider vinegar can have a strong, sharp acidity, but flavour can vary considerably depending on the ingredients and formulation.

It’s actually one of the reactions we hear most often when people first try Bio-E: “That’s surprisingly good.”

Bio-E combines apple cider vinegar with Australian apple juice, MGO 100+ Manuka honey, live probiotics and prebiotics for a smoother, lightly tangy taste that’s easy to add to your everyday routine.

07. Does apple cider vinegar need to live in the fridge?

It depends on the product, so always check the storage instructions on the bottle.

Bio-E Apple Cider Vinegar Beverage is shelf-stable and doesn't require refrigeration before opening, making it easy to store at room temperature. Once opened, simply keep it refrigerated and enjoy it chilled.

Okay, so where do I start?

If the sharp taste of traditional vinegar has always put you off, there are now plenty of different ways to explore ACV.

Bio-E takes a smoother approach, combining Australian apple juice, the Mother, live probiotics, prebiotics and MGO 100+ Manuka honey in a ready-to-drink format.

Enjoy it straight, chilled or add a splash to sparkling water and make it part of a routine that works for you.
